(Gummy) Worms On A Stick!

Gummy Worms On A Stick!
When my hubby and I were on Mackinac Island
last week, I saw the sweetest little treat in Sanders candy shop!
Pretzel rods, dipped in chocolate, covered with cookie crumbs and a smiling gummy worm perched on top!
Adorable..yes, I think worms are cute..the candy ones anyway. ;o)
I looked everywhere to find the worms they used.
I could not find them, so I went with these. Still cute.
The candy store sold the sticks for $2.49 each...
but you can make them "dirt cheap". (wink,wink)
I also made some tiny ones using pretzel sticks and the smaller gummy worms.
You will need: Pretzel rods~Melted Chocolate~
Chocolate Cookies(crushed for the dirt)~
Gummy Worms

I used these Oreo type cookies.
I just scraped off the filling, and then crushed them.
If you can find the chocolate wafer cookies, that would be a little easier!
 "Mount Crumbmore"
 Pretzel Rods ready for dipping...
 Mmmm....
 Sprinkle cookies crumbs onto the chocolate, place on wax paper. Let sit till chocolate sets!

 Eeww & yum-o! Gummies!
Gently tap the pretzel, shaking off the extra crumbs to make sure the gummy worm will stick!
Spread a little of the melted chocolate to the underside of the worm and place on the pretzel.
I thought it would be cute to make little dirt piles for the smaller worms to rest on.
Spoon a little puddle of the melted chocolate on wax paper. Place a few pretzel sticks in the chocolate and sprinkle with the cookie crumbs. Let sit, then add the gummy worms.

Don't get all "wormy" on me! Just make up a quick little batch of these and you'll feel better!

Mackinac Island Vacation..and Joann's Fudge!

Ahhh!! Vacation time..I love it!
My sweet hubby and I have just returned home from celebrating our anniversary
on the beautiful Island of Mackinac.
Located in the Straits of Mackinac with a perfect
view of the five mile long Mackinac Bridge
(Mighty Mac), the Grand Hotel seems worlds away from..everything! There are three ways to get around the island. Travel by horse, bicycle or foot..we did all three! We love road trips and this was happily a long one. We traveled a little over 2100 miles from Georgia to Michigan. We then took a ferry from Mackinaw City to Mackinac Island.
It's a wonderful step back in time the moment you walk off the docks. One of the specialties on the island is..FUDGE! I was in heaven. I thought I would share some of my photos and of course a link to our favorite fudge shop, just in case you'd like to have a taste of the amazing candy for yourself. ;o)
Our stay at this beautiful, historic hotel which opened in 1887 was wonderful. The front porch is 660 feet long!
Utterly Charming...
 Our stay just happened to coincide with the
"Lilac Festival".  Several varieties of flowers were in bloom,
 "bathing the Island with delightful fragrance"!
 We rented bikes to ride the 8 mile perimeter of the island.
It only took a couple of hours as the route is
  flat save for one small hill.
 This also included a few photo stops.
By the way..if you're from the south like me, you have no idea how cold the water gets up north..until you stick your feet in it! Yikes!
  Oh my word! I really tried to be dignified when it came to the dessert table! But, this is a dessert BUFFET! I loved the way they made the chocolate flower look like fabric on this amazing cake.
 I am a NUT for peanut butter fudge. My Mom is  absolutely the Queen Fudge Maker of my all time favorite candy. I have to say, this particular fudge is nearly identical
to hers! You are going to love me for posting this link to Joann's Fudge! There are several different candy shops on the island. Just know I sampled them all. ;o)  Joann's was by far our favorite.
 Just another day in paradise...
 Picturesque.
Till me meet again Mackinac Island...
 Hope you enjoyed my photos and don't forget to order your delicious fudge!

Apple Tree Cookies!

I Had Lots Of Fun Making These!
I so couldn't wait to make these
"Apple Tree Cookies"!
My sweet hubby and I are celebrating our
21st Wedding Anniversary this week..and although I'm not quite from the generation of this song, it just seemed to fit.
 "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree With anyone Else But Me". I carved our initials into the tree trunk  for the "icing" on the cookie.
This sweet little Apple cookie was just for fun. :o)
For the cookies,
start with your basic roll out cookie dough.
I used this recipe. I just didn't add the food color.
I also used my square crinkle cookie cutter.
 After the cookies are baked and cooled, you will be covering the cookie with rolled fondant. Prepare the cookie by painting it with corn syrup as an adhesive for the fondant.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 I wanted to lighten up the bright blue a bit. I added equal amounts of blue and white together and kneaded them till mixed completely. I am using Wilton Colored Fondant.
 Use the same cutter to cut out the fondant to cover your cookie. Gently place the fondant on the prepared cookie.
 Roll out the red fondant for the apples.
 I found this cute little *pie crust cutter at an apple store in the mountains a few years ago and had never used it. It was perfect for the tiny little apples i needed! Press the cutter firmly into the rolled fondant, then using the tip of your finger, gently press the apples out. *edit~just click on the link above (pie crust cutter) to purchase one!
 And here you go! Perfect tiny apples!
 I used the smallest leaf in the Wilton leaf fondant cutter set. Michael's Craft store sells these for $2.99.
Roll out the green fondant and cut several of these.
 I laid some of these leaves flat. I also laid several of them into the curve of a paper plate and let them dry to have a wind blown look.
 Making the apple cookie the same way,
 just use the same cookie cutter to cut out the fondant covering.
 Ready to decorate..this is fun part..
 I rolled out brown fondant and used a small sharp paring knife to cut out a free form tree trunk.
 Just use the tip of your knife to carve your initials.
Cute~Cute~Cute!
 Paint a little dab of the corn syrup on the cookie to adhere the tree trunk.
 Do the same with all the fondant pieces.
 Here's my wind blown apple tree.
