Snowball Cookies

Just in case you haven't seen any snow in your neck of the woods, I made you some Snowball Cookies!

We actually did get to see some of that beautiful white powdery stuff this weekend. It's a rarity here in Georgia so we get really happy when it makes its way south!

Hubby and I were so excited to finally have some snow that we hopped in the car and headed north so that we could see even more! Haha..the further we drove the less we saw. We had more here at home. Oh well, we enjoyed our Saturday out together anyways.

Maybe making these Snowball Cookies today will act as a sort of "rain dance" for more SNOW!
Most recipes for these cookies call for chopped pecans but I usually don't care for a big crunch in my cookies, so I pulverized mine in my food processor.
After mixing dough, roll into one tablespoon size balls.
Bake cookies @ 325 degrees for approximately 20 minutes or until lightly browned. Mine were perfect at 21 minutes.
After baking, remove cookies from pan and roll in confectioners sugar. Let cool and repeat.
These are so good that you might not want to share.
But..you better or there may just be a Snowball Fight!   ;o)

This really yummy recipe is just a slight variation from this one I found here.

Snowball Cookies

1 cup (2 sticks) butter softened
1/2 cup confectioners sugar
2 Tablespoons vanilla
2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 cup chopped pecans (I pulverized mine in my food processor)
1 cup mini chocolate chips

Also
1 cup -or enough- confectioners sugar for rolling cookies in twice.

Cream butter, confectioners sugar and vanilla.
Add flour and nuts mixing to combine.
Stir in chocolate chips.

Roll cookie dough into one tablespoon size balls and place on parchment lined baking sheet.
Bake @ 325 degrees for about 20 minutes or until just lightly browned. Mine were perfect at 21 minutes.

Remove cookies from pan and roll in confectioners sugar. Let cool and repeat.
Hubbykins said these are a repeat for sure!
Enjoy your Snowball Cookies!

Thanks for stopping by Sugartown Sweets where we hope each of your days is sweeter than the one before!   :o)  Karen.

Watercolor Valentine Cookies

We're right in the middle of a winter snow storm and all I can think of is Valentine's Day!

I pray everyone stays safe and warm.

In case you need a little help with that, I hope these cookies will at least keep your heart warm!

I am so excited to share these painted cookies with you today.

I have been wanting to try my hand at watercolor painting on cookies, so I did a little internet search for watercolor painting on fondant and I found this great tutorial..not to mention the beautiful cake Allison made! Thanks Allison!

I am so ready, let's get started!
Start with your favorite cut-out sugar cookie recipe.

I used this one.

Tools and items you will need:

Baked and cooled cookies
cookie cutters
food colors (powdered and petal dust)
lemon extract
fondant
fondant roller
parchment paper (for baking cookies and rolling out fondant)
paintbrushes
paper towels
candy markers
dish to mix paint in

I used 1" and 2" cutters for my cookies. You will use the same cutters for the fondant.
Bake 'em up!
Roll out fondant and let dry a bit.

A couple of weeks ago I ordered some powdered food color for my paint project. I wanted a pale pink but the cherry pink in the kit just wasn't. So instead I used the pink petal dust I already had on hand.

I also used the Christmas red and orange from this set I ordered.

For the paint mixture, just combine the powdered color with equal parts lemon extract. I used a food dedicated paint brush to stir the mixture till powder dissolved completely.
I found what worked best for me was to scrunch up a paper towel and dampen the end. I then dipped it into my color and....
..started painting. Soooo fun!
I added some orange and a little red to my fondant canvas. Let dry.
Once the paint has dried-drying time will be determined by how much extract you use-cut out the heart shapes.

If you would like to write on your hearts, there are plenty of edible markers out there.

My favorite right now are these candy markers.
The longer tip makes them easier for writing.
Using a food safe paintbrush, just dampen the back of the fondant piece with water and attach to cookie.
Oh we feel pretty, oh so pretty..la la la..
 forever sweet true love..
Love. A piece of heart work.
Thanks so much for stopping by.

Comments keep my life sweet.

May each of your days be sweeter than the day before.

Thanks, Karen
Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy New Year Cookies!

Happy New Year!

I know I'm a lttle late..but you know what they say.
If it's sweet, it's worth the wait! ..well, maybe I said that. haha!

I had a very busy, family and fun packed Christmas.
I hope you all did too!

Then my hubby and I headed to New York City.
We had a blast. I may post some photos later, but today it's all about a sweet new year!
You can order the number cutters here.
Roll out, cut and bake cookies using your favorite cut-out cookies recipe.

I used this one.
Materials needed: Black fondant, canned frosting, corn syrup and brush, black and silver sprinkles, fondant roller and sharp knife.

Using the same cutters as with the cookies, cut out fondant shapes to fit the cookies.
Attach fondant to cookies with a thin layer of frosting.
Apply corn syrup generously to cover fondant.
Dip cookies and press into sprinkles.
Love gettin' all sparkled up for the New Year!
Do the same with the 2016 cookies.
Cut out the clock hand using a sharp knife to cut rolled out black fondant.
Attach the hand (with corn syrup) on the round cookie that you have covered with silver sprinkles. I also attached a silver dragee.
I wish you all a sweet and blessed New Year, Karen

I began my new year with Psalm 67..a great way to start off the new year!
