Fall Cookies!

Happy First Day of Fall Cookies!
My hubby and I spent this wonderful first day of fall in the beautiful North Carolina mountains! The leaves have not turned yet, although I did see a couple with just a smidge of color. We visited our favorite apple house..Barber's Orchard in Balsam, N.C. You're barely out of the car before the amazing smells beg you to find the source..and fast! We always get our little sample (or two) of the fresh apple cider and quickly claim our place in line to buy their delicious apple treats...Apple cakes, turnovers, muffins, pies, cookies, mmmmm all good! Next week will find me in the kitchen baking up my own fresh apple pie with the Golden Delicious & Jonagolds we brought home. And now, for some sweet cookies. Happy Fall Y'all!
I used this recipe for the cookies. I substituted almond flavor in place of the vanilla and orange gel color in place of the green.
I use very little flour as this makes it easier to re-roll the scraps of dough.
Baking your cookies on a parchment paper lined pan makes clean-up so much easier.
For the smaller leaves cookies, paint with corn syrup and dip in sprinkles.
I ended up putting three colors of the sprinkles in a small bowl with which to dip the cookies. They look more fall-ish this way.

For the larger leaves ...
..and decorate with the micro leaf sprinkles. Then just dab a little of the frosting to the bottoms of the smaller cookie and attach to the larger one for a double-decker cookie!

A Sweet Fall
