Happy New Year Round-up!

Happy New Year!!
For the past few years I've made edible New Year's Eve party decorations by the number!
Looks like cookies and fondant toppers are my go to!
Each one of these are easy and fun to make not to mention sweet to eat!

So this year, like lots of other families, we've experienced many highs and lows, but we are all still here and very blessed with God's gift for yet another day!

I love you all and thank you so much for spending a little of your valuable time here with me at Sugartown Sweets!

Here's to a healthy and happy, fun and creative, and of course sweet new year!

If you'd like to make any of the treats featured above just click on the corresponding link below!

Happy New Year Cookies!

I have been blessed with a wonderful year.
My grandbabies, children, and hubby are happy and healthy. So that makes me happy too!

I pray God gives us ALL an amazing new year in 2018!

We can start with these cookies!
Sweet and sparkly cookies; as any new year treat should be! 😉
Prepare your favorite cookie dough.

Once again, I've used Lila Loa's vanilla cookie recipe. It's so good!
On a lightly floured surface, roll out cookie dough to 1/4 inch and cut out stars.
Bake your stars @375 degrees for 7-9 minutes. I bake mine for nine as I like them a little crispety!

If you like your cookies softer, stop at 7 minutes.
I used this Wilton molds set for my fondant numbers along with, black and gold sprinkles, canned frosting, and black fondant. You will also need cornstarch, corn syrup, a food safe paintbrush, and a spatula.
Yes, cornstarch, I missed you so much today. You see, in my absent-mindedness, I used powdered sugar to dust my fondant mold.

I molded my numbers twice and nearly gave up as they were sticking to the mold. You might think I would have realized the problem. I did not. Hence my wonkified numbers.

Remember, bakers, dust your molds with cornstarch!
We'll add our black sprinkles to our 2018 by painting corn syrup on the numbers first and then shaking on the sprinkles.
What---year---is---it??
To make our beautiful and sparkly gold star cookies, use a spatula to spread the frosting and then shake on those gold sprinkles. Attach numbers to cookies with a dab of frosting to the backs.

Now you have your edible, New Year's Eve party decorations all ready for your hungry guests!

What a great way to start off the New Year!

Hope you have a blessed and sweet one, Karen 😊

Happy New Year Cookie Banner Cookies!

Welcome to 2017!
(In a couple more days anyways!)

My oldest sister always comes down from Virginia at the end of December for our big family Christmas celebration. So right after we have our Christmas, it will be time for the big countdown!

I'm feeling so blessed to begin yet another new year...woohoo!

I can feel it!
It's gonna be a BANNER YEAR!

So let's get this party started!
Make a batch of your favorite cut-out cookie dough or you can click here for the recipe I used.

Also, I'm sharing links for the rectangle cutter I used (4 1/2 inch by 3 inch), as well as the number cutters.

Roll out dough and cut out rectangle shapes.

You will also need a 2 1/2 inch and 5/8 inch heart cutter. If you don't have these, you could just use the zero number cutter. Orrrr, cut some hearts freehand!
Before baking cookies on your parchment lined pan, use a knife to cut banner bottoms shapes for the cookies as shown above.

Haha..banner bottoms! Sorry, I must be 7! 😜
In addition to the cutters, you will need yellow and red fondant, and gold luster dust.

Also not pictured, gold sugar sprinkles, red petal dust and vanilla extract.
Roll out red fondant and cut heart shapes. I didn't get a photo of the tiny hearts!

If you want a little extra sparkle on your heart (and hey, who doesn't?), use a dry food safe brush to apply red petal dust!
Roll out yellow fondant and cut numbers.
Using yellow fondant as the base will give the numbers a finished, deeper gold color.

Mix a little of the gold luster dust with vanilla extract.
Using a food safe brush, paint the numbers with long even strokes. Let dry.
Give your numbers a second coat of paint.
Look at this lovely, gold number 7!
Melt black candy melts.
 Dip tops into melted candy.
Use an off-set spatula to smooth the top and sides of candy coated cookies. Place the number on top and sprinkle on some gold sugar sprinkles.

So here ya go!
Your sweet banner is ready for the final hours of 2016!
Here's to the most wonderfullest new year filled with 💗 for us all!

Happy 2017, Karen!

Happy New Year Cookies!

Happy New Year!

I know I'm a lttle late..but you know what they say.
If it's sweet, it's worth the wait! ..well, maybe I said that. haha!

I had a very busy, family and fun packed Christmas.
I hope you all did too!

Then my hubby and I headed to New York City.
We had a blast. I may post some photos later, but today it's all about a sweet new year!
You can order the number cutters here.
Roll out, cut and bake cookies using your favorite cut-out cookies recipe.

I used this one.
Materials needed: Black fondant, canned frosting, corn syrup and brush, black and silver sprinkles, fondant roller and sharp knife.

Using the same cutters as with the cookies, cut out fondant shapes to fit the cookies.
Attach fondant to cookies with a thin layer of frosting.
Apply corn syrup generously to cover fondant.
Dip cookies and press into sprinkles.
Love gettin' all sparkled up for the New Year!
Do the same with the 2016 cookies.
Cut out the clock hand using a sharp knife to cut rolled out black fondant.
Attach the hand (with corn syrup) on the round cookie that you have covered with silver sprinkles. I also attached a silver dragee.
I wish you all a sweet and blessed New Year, Karen

I began my new year with Psalm 67..a great way to start off the new year!

New Year's Eve 2015 Fondant Cake Toppers

Happy New Year's Eve!

Tonite my family will ring in the new year beginning with a service at our church followed by a snack fest and ball drop at my daughter's house!

Next time we talk it will be 2015!

Wishing you all a very blessed new year.
I absolutely love my Ateco numbers cutters..until I noticed the #5.
It's quite bad actually. It's pretty much the #2 flipped! I have not used the cutter till today and I hope I can find an alternative before I need to use it again.
Pearl dust..'cause we can never have too much sparkle!
A simple fondant topper. You can make it even simpler by not using the pearl dust.
They'll still be colorful and quite festive.
Click here to see the candy covered toppers I made a couple of years ago.
I also used Skittles and M&Ms for the "lights",
colored fondants, lemon extract to make the pearl dust "paint", a small paintbrush, and lollipop sticks.
Roll out fondant, cut with cookie cutter and insert lollipop stick.
Mix a small amount of lemon extract with pearl dust. Mix with paintbrush and apply to finished topper.
We're done!

Thanks for hanging with Sugartown Sweets in 2014.
Here's to a fun and creative 2015.

Now go ring in the new year with good family and friends!
Comments are cause for Celebration!
