Ahhh!! Vacation time..I love it!
My sweet hubby and I have just returned home from celebrating our anniversary
on the beautiful Island of Mackinac.
Located in the Straits of Mackinac with a perfect
view of the five mile long Mackinac Bridge
(Mighty Mac), the Grand Hotel seems worlds away from..everything! There are three ways to get around the island. Travel by horse, bicycle or foot..we did all three! We love road trips and this was happily a long one. We traveled a little over 2100 miles from Georgia to Michigan. We then took a ferry from Mackinaw City to Mackinac Island.
It's a wonderful step back in time the moment you walk off the docks. One of the specialties on the island is..FUDGE! I was in heaven. I thought I would share some of my photos and of course a link to our favorite fudge shop, just in case you'd like to have a taste of the amazing candy for yourself. ;o)
Our stay at this beautiful, historic hotel which opened in 1887 was wonderful. The front porch is 660 feet long!
Utterly Charming...
Our stay just happened to coincide with the
"Lilac Festival". Several varieties of flowers were in bloom,
"bathing the Island with delightful fragrance"!
We rented bikes to ride the 8 mile perimeter of the island.
It only took a couple of hours as the route is

flat save for one small hill.
This also included a few photo stops.

By the way..if you're from the south like me, you have no idea how cold the water gets up north..until you stick your feet in it! Yikes!
Oh my word! I really tried to be dignified when it came to the dessert table! But, this is a dessert BUFFET! I loved the way they made the chocolate flower look like fabric on this amazing cake.
I am a NUT for peanut butter fudge. My Mom is absolutely the Queen Fudge Maker of my all time favorite candy. I have to say, this particular fudge is nearly identical
to hers! You are going to love me for posting this link to Joann's Fudge! There are several different candy shops on the island. Just know I sampled them all. ;o) Joann's was by far our favorite.
Just another day in paradise...
Picturesque.
Till me meet again Mackinac Island...
Hope you enjoyed my photos and don't forget to order your delicious fudge!
Sweet and Happy Vacation Time
